Scotts
Valley Newsmaker: The skatepark
Park gives kids a place to go
December 26, 2004
By JONDI GUMZ, Sentinel staff writer
SCOTTS VALLEY - In Scotts Valley, 2004 was the year of the skatepark.
After 16 years of skateboarding being outlawed on streets and
sidewalks, kids finally had a place to go. The skatepark opened
in time for the Tim Brauch Contest, sponsored by Sessions in
memory of the young skateboarder who was so good he was recognized
by the Smithsonian. The contest started in Scotts Valley then
moved to Milpitas for lack of a local venue. Now it's back home,
so to speak. Next year's event is tentatively slated for the
second weekend in October.
