Amgen Bike Tour of California goes thru Milpitas
Wednesday, February 20, 2008.
The race is expected to pass the intersection of E. Calaveras and Piedmont Rd. sometime between 1:45 pm and 2:26 pm depending on the average speed of the race. For the Stage 3 map and log, see the link above. The upper part of E Calaveras and Piedmont Road will be blocked. Those who expect to need to move their cars between those times should park them on neighboring streets ahead of time.

California Bike Commute Week
Held annually in May. Check here for exactly when. Local event
usually announced on City Hall homepage.
Hellyer Velodrome
Currently (Spring 2007) the track is under construction. Check
here to see when the track is usuable.
Mt. Hamilton Challenge
April 26, 2008. Starting in Santa Clara, riders climb
to Lick Observatory atop 4,209 ft Mt. Hamilton, then continue
through the remote San Antonio and Arroyo Mocho Valleys on a
128 mile loop with 8,300 ft of climbing.
SBAY Geek Ride
A monthly bicycle ride event (weather permitting) from March
to October. It takes place on the Sunday 8 days after the monthly
SBAY Pizza meetings at 3 or 4PM. While they have a 2008 event posted, they are also saying they have no one to coordinate the event, so who knows whether it will happen or not.

adult size bikes unless they are in exceptionally good condition.

I like to go bicycling, but with my skinny-tired high-geared
road bike, I prefer riding flat, smooth, dedicated bike paths.
These are special ones that are particularly well-suited for
road biking. Because they're flat, most of them are also good
for family bike rides.
Bay Area Ridge Trail
Eventually a 500-mile trail encircling the San Francisco Bay
along the ridge tops, open to hikers, equestrians, mountain bicyclists,
and outdoor enthusiasts of all types. So far, we have dedicated
almost 300 miles of trail for use by Bay Area residents, now
and forever.

A nice level ride along the Bay. The author, however, does not
seem to know that the "hills" are old Indian shell
mounds, the trash pits of 10,000 years of Indian habitation in
the area.

Has a summer camp in the Tahoe area to teach techniques of mountain
biking. It appears they had a pretty serious wild fire up there,
so call first. Open for cross-country skiing once there's snow.
