Silicon Valley Reads
What if all the teens and adults in our area read the same book
and talked about it? Which book would that be?

Not a Genuine Black Man
My Life as an Outsider
by Brian Copeland
A poignant and disarming memoir about growing up black in an all-white suburb, Not a Genuine Black Man is also a powerful contemplation on the meaning of race, and a thoughtful examination of how our surroundings make us who we are. This book will be the subject of numerous programs throughout Santa Clara County in February 2009, when readers throughout Silicon Valley are asked to read the same book, at the same time, and discuss it.

Biology: Principles and Explorations
A GO MILPITAS RESOURCE
The Milpitas Post reported on May 30, 2002, that "Milpitas
High School's science department is considering adoption of Biology,
Principals [sic] and Explorations, by publisher Holt, Reinhart
and Winston, for ninth to 12th grades." That's their spelling,
not mine. Here are some reviews of this text book.

Closing
the Gap To Build Support for Education
If you could see the lineup of people, resources, and money behind
the effort to persuade you that all is well, you would be astonished
that any negative or critical coverage appears anywhere, at any
time. From the Education
Intelligence Agency. [Note: MUSD just hired a PR consultant.]
The
Great American Textbook Scandal
Leonard Tramiel, a balding, dark-bearded man of 45, sat alone
in a science classroom in Milpitas, a middle-class community
on the south end of San Francisco Bay. Having earned a Ph.D.
in physics from Columbia University and having made a bundle
in Silicon Valley, Tramiel now taught occasionally around the
Bay Area as a volunteer. He discovered many errors in the science
textbook and attempted to get these errors fixed.

Correct - California Issues
