Favorite Kids' Authors

I want to find out more about my favorite author or series

Louisa May Alcott
"I never went to school," Louisa wrote, "except to my father or such governesses as from time to time came into the family... so we had lessons each morning in the study. And very happy hours they were to us. More about Louisa May Alcott, author of Little Women and Little Men.

Animorphs
Read a sample chapter of the next thrilling Animorphs adventure series or send an Animorphs card to a friend.

Arthur
All your favorite friends from the Arthur series share their favorite things to do online.

Harper's Children
Harper's is the publisher of many favorite children's books: Chronicles of Narnia, books by Beverly Cleary, Little House series, and others. Here you can have fun with contests and games as you learn more about their many books.

Hogwarts Distance Learning Program for Homeschoolers
A free virtual learning webpage and email list and where you can role play that you are a student at the Hogwarts School For Wizards from the Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling.

Judy Blume's Home Base
And now it's Double Fudge! Even a video clip! Any fan of Fudge knows that he never does anything halfway.

Lemony Snicket
You, the unwary computer user, are only a click away from learning more about A Series Of Unfortunate Events, a terrible collection of books concerning the lives of the three Baudelaire children, and if I were you, I would visit any other website in the world rather than participate in the gloom that this particular site offers.

Magic Tree House
Mary Pope Osborne has informtion about upcoming books in the series, answers your questions, and has suggestions for acitvities.

Narnia
What is the story that lies behind Narnia's creation? Who was C.S. Lewis and how did he first begin to imagine The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe?

Peter Rabbit Homepage
Though some sections are commercial, much of this charming site has games related to the Peter Rabbit series, information about Beatrice Potter, some of her lovely drwaings, and film clips from the videos.

Redwall Abbey
The stories are known as the "Redwall" series, because they centre around Redwall Abbey. The heroes are peace-loving mice, moles, shrews, squirrels, and their friends who exhibit human characteristics in a medieval setting. They face the dark side of the animal world, represented by rats, weasels, stoats, foxes, and their villain allies, in the day-to-day struggle of good versus evil, life versus death. Brian Jacques official site.

Roald Dahl Website
A fascinating Flash animated site that will enthrall you for at least an hour. Ronald had a terrible time at school. One teacher commented about his wirting ability: 'I have never met a boy who so persistently writes the exact opposite of what he means. He seems incapable of marshaling his thoughts on paper.'"

The World of Beverly Cleary
When the family moved to Portland, where Beverly attended grammar school and high school, she soon found herself in the low reading circle, an experience that has given her sympathy for the problems of struggling readers.

.... classic authors for teen and advanced readers

I just love the Little House on the Prairie!

Dear Laura
Laura Ingalls Wilder used to love to answer letters from children about her Little House on the Prairie books. A retired teacher has carried on her tradition.

Laura Ingalls Wilder Activities
Timeline, mapping the journey, make a pioneer town, a quilt, a bonnet or a straw hat. Clipart of prairie wildflowers.

Little House in the Big Woods
This is a preview of this book. While a good deal of the pages are visible, some will be missing. But this is a good way to tell if you would enjoy this book. Click on the right facing triangle or just scroll down to move through the book.

Pa's fiddle music.
Pa's fiddle was an important part of Laura's childhood, and his music is mentioned quite frequently in her books. Pa had a song to fit every occasion, whether happy or sad.

Little House Home
Five generations of pioneers girls from one family.

Children's Literature

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Book 7)
(Hardcover)
Deluxe Edition
by J. K. Rowling
Readers beware. The brilliant, breathtaking conclusion to J.K. Rowling's spellbinding series is not for the faint of heart--such revelations, battles, and betrayals await.

The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings (Boxed Set)
by J. R. R. Tolkien
The four books' characters--good and evil--are recognizably human, and the realism is deepened by the magnificent detail of the vast parallel world Tolkien devised, inspired partly by his influential Anglo-Saxon scholarship and his Christian beliefs.
