Sewing Lessons for Teens

And grownups, too!

Lessons

Free Sewing Book: Sewing Lessons For Beginners
To have a copy of this book, either print the document, or select and print the areas of your choice.

Learn to Sew
Beginning and intermediate articles to teach you how to sew. Sewing project directions also available.

The Sewing Room
This is an interactive room where all sewers will want to go to learn about basic sewing techniques. Sewing Experts from the Viking sewing machine company in Sweden will guide you, with step-by-step video instructions in English. Other languages, too.

Quilting

History of Baby Quilts: Patterns for Crib & Doll Quilts
Make doll and baby quilts typical of different periods in history. Each pattern includes some history and information on how the quilt would have been made during that time. There's a nine patch that could be made by most children and a log cabin that an older child could make. Both sewing and history would be learned from each pattern.

Quilting Forum
Quilters at all levels exchange information, make new friends and swap fabric & blocks here. Hosted by Susan Druding. A Delphi forum, so ask a parent if you may sign up.

Quilting With Children
This page is designed to describe the projects I have organized and give you ideas, techniques, and resources for working with children in making quilts.

Sewing Projects

Bunkhouse Sewing
Sewing tips, projects, and activities for students and teachers. Use this section to supplement your sewing experience with free puzzles and games, sewing tips, activities, projects, and curriculum guides.

Curtain sewing directions
Here's a nice, easy entry level sewing project. This would be a great project to allow teens to decorate their own bedroom.

Husqvarna Viking - Sewing for Teens
Projects using recycled material, such as old jeans. Ideas for simple costumes. Useful items to have handy. From the TV show Sew Young, Sew Fun.

Teen Seams
Not only project ideas, but also information about careers in the textile and fashion industries.

Sew Fast Sew Easy : All You Need to Know When You Start to Sew
Sew Fast Sew Easy : All You Need to Know When You Start to Sew
by Elissa K. Meyric
The only mistake that I made in purchasing this book was that I bought it after I had spent money on other, more complicated, books marketed towards the beginning sewer. If you have literally NO prior experience, cannot decipher a "selvage" from a "crosswise grain", buy this book. It is elementary in its explanation and directions, without being condescending.
