Spiders - Insects 4 Kids

Spiders are not insects, but are of the class "Arachnida." Mites, ticks, and scorpions are also in this class. They are in the subgroup "Araneae." These and true insects are all part of the order "Arthropoda."

Arachnid Printouts - EnchantedLearning
Arachnid are animals that have an exoskeleton, a two-part segmented body, and 8 jointed legs; they do not have a backbone. The body is divided into the prosoma and the abdomen. The prosoma anchors the chelicerae (pincers), pedipalps (mouth parts) and four pairs of legs.

Arachnophobia
Arachnophobia" comes from the Greek words, "arachne", meaning "spider", and "phobos", meaning "a fear". Arachne was a beautiful Greek maiden.

Black Widow Spiders - Desert USA
The female Black Widow is shiny black, usually with a reddish hourglass shape on the underside of her spherical abdomen. Her body is about 1.5 inches long.

Edible Spiders
Round crackers, peanut butter, chocolate chips, and pretzel sticks make this fun spidery treat.

The Garden Safari: Spiders, Ticks, Harvestmen and Pseudoscorpions
Like insects and many other animals spiders are arthropods. Many people think that spiders are insects, but that is definitely not true. Contrary to insects, that have 6 legs, spiders, ticks, and harvestmen have as many as 8 legs.

The Itsy Bitsy Spider
Includes the Rebus rhyme, a sequencing chart, and a simple craft project for small children.

Spiders: Brown Recluse, Black Widow, and Other Common Spiders
Spiders are important predators which help keep insect and some other arthropod pest populations in check. This beneficial role far outweighs the hazard posed by the few spiders that occasionally bite humans. From the Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service.

Spiders of Australia
Australia is the land of the kangaroo, the crocodile and ... the spider. But how do you pack for a month-long spider hunt in the outback? Over 200 photos of spiders.

Spyda-Web
For those considering keeping a tarantula as a pet. Chats. Place to post your photo of your pet tarantula.

Wolf Spider
Wolf spiders are often confused with the brown recluse, but they lack the unmistakable violin-shaped marking behind the head. The wolf spider is shy and seeks to run away when disturbed.
