Getting Started with Arbor
Academy
Arbor Academy offers year round enrollment and we accept
mid term transfers. Starting with Arbor Academy is a simple process.

enrollment advisor prior to enrolling with Arbor Academy, or families may opt to
complete the initial online enrollment independently.
We can offer a great deal of oversight and support if you
need it, or give support just when you request it.
We are ready to help with ongoing free supplemental
web-based curriculum starters and phone or email support. With responsive and
caring support services, Arbor Academy families get to experience the true
freedoms and joys of Independent Study their children.
After your child's initial enrollment has been processed

NAAS Accredited and College Board Certified Courses
Apex
Learningï AP Courses
Starting with the 2007-2008 school
year, for a course to be authorized to use the AP* designation it must have been
approved via the College Board AP course audit. Apex Learning submitted all 14
of our online AP courses to the course audit. We are pleased to announce that
all 14 courses have been approved to use the AP designation. This includes
approval for our AP science courses (AP Biology, AP Chemistry, and AP Physics)
with the existing virtual labs for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Authorization
The authorization of a
course is an official recognition by the College Board that the course meets or
exceeds the expectations colleges and universities have for the AP subject. The
syllabus is reviewed by experienced college and university faculty, who have
confirmed that it outlines how the course provides a college-level learning
opportunity to students. This authorization grants a school permission to use
the "AP" designation on students' transcripts in association with the authorized
course. In addition, the course will appear in a publicly available,
Internet-based ledger to be published in November 2007.
Virtual
Labs
The College Board has recently
established new guidelines for virtual labs that must be satisfied to continue
to use the AP designation starting with the 2008-2009 school year. Apex Learning
has already initiated development of new virtual labs meeting those requirements
to submit to the College Board to receive authorization for the 2008-2009 school
year.

Underserved within Traditional School Settings:
Arbor Academy is proud to include a broad range of students
on our roster, including some well known young actors and athletes.
We are very proud to serve those families who must travel
due to work obligations, military families, and international students,
including several diplomatic families.
Serving working actors, competitive athletes, gifted
students, students with special needs, along with the 'average kid' simply
better suited to home Independent Study has shown us what a difference freedom
and choice can make for these children and their families.
While our students come from a broad community of learners,
it seems that even more options exist in how Arbor Academy students pursue their
educational goals. Arbor Academy student families encompass a wide range of
learning styles, interests, and skill levels.
Arbor Academy High School Diploma Options
Arbor Academy High School families needed to
have a clear, structured High School Program offering two types of diplomas:
General and Academic (for the college-bound student). By offering options
for pursuing graduation goals, including assisting families with possible
accelerated graduation for excellent students, standardized testing schedules,
CHSPE assistance and college planning, we help you take the guesswork out of the
often-confusing High School experience.
California students are not required to take the CHSEE in
order to prepare for graduation, but all students are able to and encouraged to
take the SAT, ACT and Advanced Placement tests as they prepare for them in their
studies. Community college credits are accepted program wide.
Additional Educational Goals and Needs
Many Arbor Academy High School students choose to
participate in Concurrent College Enrollment. This
gives the high schooler experience in the college arena, and helps pave the way
for the future. We accept these credits as completed credits towards graduation
and increasingly our students taking advantage of this important option have
gone on to prestigious four year colleges as transfer students. We offer
in-depth college planning guidance on a personal consultation basis.
Arbor Academy also acts as a
Community Service Liaison. In addition, we serve as a liaison between active
Southern California Independent Study support groups, and we can help find a
