Tourists and New Yorkers alike want to know the "real New York." These tours take visitors into areas not on the typical tourist map and connect them to local music, immigrant history, parks, waterways, architecture, cuisine, artists, murals, and one-of-a-kind stores.

FreeNYC
NYC's premier guide to quality free and cheap events. Not all events listed are appropriate for children, while others, such as the Bubble Bath bubble blowing blowout in Union Square on the first day of spring might be just what your family would enjoy.

Jr. Explorers Club for Homeschoolers
A parent-sponsored, free field trip club for homeschooled children of all ages. We go on monthly field trips to fun, educational locations in PA, NJ, DE & NY.

Meet Me At The Corner

Science & The City
The webzine of the New York Academy of Sciences, rests at the intersection of NYC science and culture, providing a free public service: an up-to-date calendar of stimulating science and cultural events in New York City, accessible to all who are interested.

Empire State Building
The 86th floor Observatory, 1,050 feet (320 meters), reached by high speed, automatic elevators, has both a glass-enclosed area, which is heated in winter and cooled in summer, and spacious outdoor promenades on all four sides of the Building. Or climb the 1,576 steps. Fifth Avenue at 34th Street.

Arts & Crafts

Forbes Galleries
Huge collection of toy boats, toy soldiers, Monopoly games from years gone by, and loads of weird trophies make this a young collector's dream. Located on the lobby level of the Forbes Building. Greenwich House Pottery
A center for the Ceramics Arts in New York's West Village since 1909, which reaches out to homeschoolers in our area who would be interested in classes, workshops or field trips. 16 Jones Street, New York, NY. (212) 242-4106.

The Brooklyn Children's Museum

The Children's Museum of the Arts

Mid-Hudson Children's Museum

Carnegie Hall Family Concerts
Recommended for children ages 5-12, are a wonderful way for parents to introduce their children to the world of music!  For just $8 per ticket, audience members will enjoy a fun and educational afternoon at Carnegie Hall. Various venues in the New York City area.

Bird Watching in Central Park
