Distance Learning Programs for Gifted Children

These programs cater to the needs of gifted and talented youngsters. They frequently require qualifying results of IQ or other testing. The programs are fast-paced, and intended for highly motivated students.

Accelerated Christian Education
Accelerated Christian curriculum and support distance learning program. ACE is also known as the School of Tomorrow.

Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University
Specializes in gifted education and provides programs for gifted students during both the school year and summer. Additionally, we conduct research on gifted students and their needs. We are going to offer accelerated summer courses online for the first time in 2005.

Education Program for Gifted Youth (EPGY) at Stanford University
A continuing project dedicated to developing and offering multimedia computer-based distance-learning courses. Grades K-7. See high school program below.

EPGY Online High School
Stanford's online high school will offer two types of classes. One is a seminar-style course where students and teachers will use audio feeds to discuss and study online classroom materials together. In another more self-directed type of class, students will learn from a CD-ROM and contact instructors online with questions.

HP Telementor Program
Hewlett-Packard supports 5th - 12th grade students and college students from public, private and home school environments to excel in math, science and career planning. Project-based studies supported by email. No cost, but must apply and be accepted. International.

Irish Centre For Talented Youth
Fast paced programs for gifted and talented youth. Program through John Hopkins University in Dublin.

Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth
Many services for academically talented students in grades 2-8, including assessment of mathematical and verbal reasoning abilities, recognition of academic excellence, fast-paced academic programs (both residential and distance-learning formats), and conferences.

Trent Academy
Trent is a computerized, internet-based, world-wide-web, classroom. Has special programs to assist homeschool families with gifted and talented children. Refuses to recognize accreditation agencies. HSLDA affiliated.
